FCTA minister wants full implementation of N362bn budget
Senator Bala Mohammed, minister of the Federal Capital Territory
Administration (FCTA) has said that adequate arrangements have been made to
ensure full implementation of the 362billion budget for Abuja .
The amount which comprises of the national priority budget and the statutory
budget of the administration is tailored towards providing quality
infrastructure that would speed up economic activities in the city.
A statement from Mr. Nosike Ogbuenyi, Special Assistant on media to the
minister said that the FCTA minister disclosed this while speaking at a
forum for the Developing Local Governments through Microfinance Banks in
Abuja .
The National Assembly (Nass) had only Tuesday this week allocated over N300
billion as the statutory budget for the FCT in the 2010 fiscal year which is
just seven months away Senator Bala noted explained that his administration
would not condone a situation in which funds budgeted for grassroots
development are embezzled by elected officials and their collaborators.
He vowed that efforts would henceforth be made to ensure that the six area
councils in the territory live up to expectations of the people in terms of
service delivery and verifiable development.
The minister disclosed that his administration recently received a proposal
from National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) which advocated some
acceptable partnership positions for the establishment of microfinance banks
within the FCT on a joint venture basis.
According to him, government is determined to implement policies that will
go a long way to develop the microfinance base of the territory, create
saving culture and invigorate the self-reliant potentials of the people of
the FCT during the tenure of the present administration and beyond.
“I have since directed the relevant agencies in the FCT including the Abuja
Enterprise Agency to take the necessary measures to ensure that this
administration quickly and aggressively pursues the implementation of the
proposal for the overall wellbeing of residents of the territory. I have no
doubt that this will definitely boost economic and entrepreneurial
activities within the FCT,” he emphasized.
The FCT Minister added: “We in the FCT have a dynamic Federal Capital
Territory Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (FEEDS) blueprint which
has specific roles for both the FCT Administration and the area councils.
This document also contains internal safeguards for monitoring and
evaluating all tiers of government.”
