Corruption: PDP Offered N5 million for me to Betray Buhari ….CPC Chairman

Written by Chuks Ehirim, Abuja

The desperate moves being made by leaders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party[PDP],to bury the facts about how the April 16,2011 Presidential election was rigged in favour of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, especially in the South-East  and South-South geo-political zones, has been exposed by a leading member of the opposition Congress for Progressive Change[CPC].

In the last few days, there have been claims  in the media, by some purported members of the CPC from the two zones, that the April elections, especially the Presidential election, were free and fair and that the party has no reason to challenge the outcome of the polls in the tribunals.

But speaking at a press conference in Abuja organized by the North-Central zone of the party last week, the party's Chairman in Edo State, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, made it emphatically clear at the occasion, that those dissociating themselves from the CPC legal battle against President Jonathan, were actually paid by the PDP leaders, to deceive the Nigerian public.

Comrade Erhahon who was at the said press briefing in solidarity with his colleagues from the North-Central, illustrated how leaders of PDP in the South- South, offered him the sum of N5million to join a group of persons who gathered at Ogba, Lagos State, in the name of CPC Chairmen from the three geo-political zones in the south [South-East, South-South and South-West], to denounce the party for challenging the Presidential election result in court. The fellows had argued that the elections were credible, free and fair.

Reacting to that however, Erhahon had this to say. ''Iam the leader of South-South Chairmen of the CPC and I can tell you that just like three weeks ago when this thing started, the press conference that was held by some people at Ogba, in Lagos, was to have held in Port Harcourt.''

''They called us and said that Jonathan wanted us, as his brothers, to support PDP, that we should not in any way expose him or what was done to make him win. But we turned down their request and were able to frustrate the meeting that was scheduled to hold at Presidential Hotel, Port Haccourt.''

''There after, they came back and said to me, the way things are going, they have come to meet me again, they were going to pay N2.5million to any state chairman who attends the meeting. I told them that even at N2.5billion,l will not abandon Gen. Buhari.''

Erhahon who was a former Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union  of Journalists, expressed shock that one Afolabi Ogunde was recruited by the PDP, to pose as the chairman of CPC in Edo, during the said press briefing of the purported party leaders in Lagos. He accused the PDP of being afraid and jittery that the CPC legal battle will expose their rigging of the April polls.

''The question l want to ask is, if the PDP is not afraid, if they have nothing to hide, if they are not afraid that exposing them at the tribunal will put an end to this  jamboree they are celebrating, why are they buying members of CPC to come and sing false tunes. Why are they afraid'', he queried.

He added that ''why are they paying so much to get people to come and tell lies. When I rejected their N2.5million offer, they said they would raise my own fee to N5million but l told them we have passed that stage''.

Though, Comrade Erhahon refused to mention the name of those recruiting fake CPC persons to speak for the party, our investigation shows that one of them is a Presidential aide who hails from Delta State and has as part of his brief, the Niger Delta crisis management. We gathered also that a former Minister from Abia State who is equally in the race for the job of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation [SGF],is also one of those doing the recruiting.
