2011: Why Martin Elechi Can’t Deliver Goodluck Jonathan
Written by Ben-Bright Mkpuma, Abuja Friday Feb. 25, 2011
Despite the empty promises that Gov. Martin Elechi, of Ebonyi
state has been making that the people of the state have resolved
to give President Goodluck Jonathan a block vote, in the April
Presidential election, Watchdogreporters can authoritatively
confirm that the President is deeply upset with the 82
year-old man.
Before the presidential rally in the state, the President who
was visiting Ebonyi for the first time had sought to know if
there was any project for him to commission. He was assured
that there were many projects, already completed and awaiting
for him to commission. On his arrival in the state, President
Jonathan was told there was none, a development that angered the
President.
Not only that there was no single development project in the
state that can be traced to Martin Elechi, in four years of his
administration, one could easily count the number of PDP
supporters at the Abakaliki Stadium, an indication that the
governor who doubles as Jonathan’s chief campaigner is not on
ground and has since been abandoned by the people of the state,
except few civil servants, whose jobs are constantly threatened,
a government house sources told Watchdogreporters that it is a
“taboo” to mention the word PDP in Ikwo, the home town of the
governor.
It was learnt that the President had to ask the governor if he
was having any problem, in the last three and half years that
the state “cannot” point to a single development project. The
President also demanded to know from the governor if he has been
receiving the state allocation from the Federation Account like
other states. It was learnt that President Goodluck personally
said he has lost hope, in the state, as far as, votes are
concerned, adding that the people of the state deserve apology
from both Elechi administration and the federal government.
President Goodluck, according to a top government house official
is not happy with Martin Elechi over the ugly role he played, in
the communal war between Ezza and Ezza-Ezillo, both communities
have been living together for more than 80 years. The governor
had invaded the community with police bulldozer and helicopter,
killing about 90 percent of the Ezza people, who were invited by
the Ezillos to assist them during a war with another tribe that
nearly consume the Ezillos, but for the intervention of the
Ezzas……. There was an agreement between the two communities that
they would live together if the Ezzas could assist them to win
the war, at the period.
A top PDP chieftain at the Goodluck/Sambo campaign organisation
told Watchdogreporters that the President, if he wins the
election, would team up with whoever wins in the state, between
Senator Julius Ucha, of the ANPP and Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu,
of the APGA, to develop the state. Analysts are worried that
the next governor of the state will have some challenges toward
the development of the state, as the present administration of
Martin Elechi has borrowed so much money and nothing to show for
it. The state government took about N17 billion bond, claiming
that he was constructing 35 bridges, hotels and markets.
